Content is the core commodity of the digital economy. It is the gold we fashion into luxury experience, the diamond we encase in loyalty programs and upsells. Yet, as designers, we often plug it in after the fact. We prototype our interaction and visual design to exhaustion, but accept that the "real words" can just be dropped in later. There is a better way. More and more, the digital goods we create operate within a dynamic system of content, functionality, code and intent. Our products and services drift and spill into partner websites, social media feeds and myriad electronic aggregators, all seeking to shape visitor behavior and understanding. Systems build on systems, and, in short order, we've cobbled together a colossus the breadth of which sends minds a-boggling. The post Content-First Prototyping appeared first on Smashing Magazine.
Wearing a face mask is not something you can choose to do, it's the new normal! You might as well get used to it. Thankfully, designers are now finding creative ways to make face masks look more fashionable with custom designs. If you're also working on a face mask design for a client or to […]
QR code is useful to transfer data across different devices. An Android device can exchange data with an iOS device through a QR code. It does not require setting up a wireless network and does not have the hassle of pairing using Bluetooth. As it is a screen-camera solution, it is also safe to use. As discussed in the previous article, a QR code can store up to 2,953 bytes with its version set to 40 and its error correction level set to low in bytes mode, which is quite enough for transferring data like a web link, the info of driver's licenses, etc.

I first discovered the calc() function more than four years ago, thanks to CSS3 Click Chart, and I was absolutely delighted to see that basic mathematical computations — addition, subtraction, multiplication and division — had found their way into CSS. A lot of people think preprocessors fully cover the realm of logic and computation, but the calc() function can do something that no preprocessor can: mix any kind of units. Preprocessors can only mix units with a fixed relation between them, like angular units, time units, frequency units, resolution units and certain length units. The PDF format is still the standard when it comes to exchanging documents. PDFelement is an extensive PDF editor that allows you to create, edit, and even sign PDF files or protect them from being altered, if necessary. The application is a great alternative to Adobe’s Acrobat, not only because it’s much more cost-effective… Intuitive Controls Thanks to a Simple Interface PDFelement is available as a classic desktop application for Windows and Mac. When starting the PDF editor, first choose one of the four basic functions that allow you to either create, edit, combine, or convert a PDF file. Creating PDF files is as easy as it gets. Just open any file – no matter if it’s an image file or an Office document -, and it will be available as a PDF file in PDFelement. Afterwards, you are able to add bookmarks or notes to single pages. Alternatively, it’s also possible to create PDF files via a PDF printer. This way, you create a PDF file in any application and then edit it in PDFelement. Editing PDF Files and Adding Images The big advantage over simple PDF printers is the option to alter an existing PDF file. For instance, […]
