Some things are either on or off and, when those things aren't on (or off), they are invariably off (or on). The concept is so rudimentary that I've only complicated it by trying to explain it, yet on/off switches (or toggle buttons) are not all alike. Although their purpose is simple, their applications and forms vary greatly. In this inaugural post, I'll be exploring what it takes to make toggle buttons inclusive. As with any component, there's no one way to go about this, especially when such controls are examined under different contexts. However, there's certainly plenty to forget to do or to otherwise screw up, so let's try to avoid any of that. The post Building Inclusive Toggle Buttons appeared first on Smashing Magazine.
Editor's Note: Making big changes doesn't necessarily require big efforts — it's just a matter of moving in the right direction. We can't wait for Paul's new book on User Experience Revolution (free worldwide shipping starting from April 18!), and in this article, Paul shares just some of the little tricks and techniques to bring around a big UX revolution into your company — with a series of small, effective steps. It feels like everywhere I turn somebody is saying that user experience is the next frontier in business, that we have moved beyond the age of features to creating outstanding experiences. But for many of us who work on in-house teams, the reality feels a million miles away from this. Getting management to understand the importance of user experience seems so tough. Even colleagues don't seem to see the benefit. For those of us in-house, how are we going to get to this golden age of user experience design that people keep promising us?The post How To Spark A UX Revolution appeared first on Smashing Magazine.
Books have a very popular proverb associated with them and their cover pages. But in today’s world, it is highly impossible to prevent the audience from judging the book by its cover page. Be it an online store or offline shop, readers first look at the cover page and then decide to read. A book’s […] The post 12 Things Not To Do When Designing a Book Cover first appeared on Line25.
I’ve covered the surreal appearance of false-color infrared photography a few times on Spoon Graphics in tutorials, videos and a showcase of beautiful examples. With the single exception of my 94-year-old mother, I don't know a single person over the age of 65 who doesn't have a smartphone, computer, or tablet, and usually all three. I'm well past sixty, and have worked my way through punch cards, a C-64, many versions of Windows, Apple and Linux. I know at least a few people over seventy who have a programming background or who have spent a lot of time doing graphic design and computer music composition on various machines.
