Introduction A few days back I had the chance to explore NestJS. It is a relatively new framework that makes it easy to develop backend applications using NodeJS. The adoption of the framework is gradually increasing in different organizations. In this post, we will look at NestJS Basics and Core Fundamentals that form the backbone of this amazing framework. To understand the NestJS Basics better, we will also bootstrap a starter application using Nest CLI.
Websites have evolved greatly over the past few years. Once text-heavy websites have become more eye-catching with prominent images and video. But the addition of richer media isn't the only change impacting websites. Consumer behavior also factors into this evolution, as web access has moved from the desktop realm to a variety of different devices...
Are you afraid of refactoring code? I love refactoring code. It's nice to see a code base growing, but this also means that new quirks and suboptimal changes are introduced along the way. At some point, you might realize that there could be a huge opportunity in rewriting the code -- to eliminate conflicts or to rename things. For me, refactoring is both: It's a challenge to master, but, in the end, also a relief to see how the code evolved. We can't anticipate everything when we first build modules, and we shouldn't try to do so either. So let's not be afraid to set our hands to an already existing code base and improve our code over time instead. The post Web Development Reading List #161: Restyling Form Elements, HTTP/2 HPACK, And The Empathy Vacuum appeared first on Smashing Magazine.

In a recent post to his site, Sergey Zhuk walks through the process for building a REST API with ReactPHP and MySQL and a bit of help from a simple routing package to handle the requests. Today we will be looking at creating a RESTful API using ReactPHP, MySQL and nikic/FastRoute. Let's look at the API we want to build and what it can do. He then steps through the development of the REST API: showing the file structure of the resulting application installing dependencies the code to set up the HTTP server for handling requests (using React) building out the database with a user table He then gets into the main part of the tutorial, showing the build out of each of the routes for the CRUD operations (Create, Read, Update, Delete). He provides both the code to make the endpoint work and examples of the requests they handle.
