For any apps or websites that work with addresses, it's necessary for these addresses to be validated and parsed, as well as standardized and verified. There are various mechanisms that are best suited to different projects, so figuring out what you need exactly isn't always that easy. What Problems Appear Around Parsing and Standardization? There are three primary issues that often occur in the parsing and standardization process.
Microsoft’s announcement last month that users of Office and other company software can now create passwordless login scenarios was welcome news. I think I speak for the entire computer-using world when I say this is just great. Passwords are the bane of our existence. They really give the worst user experience of all. I’ve worked … continue reading The post The password is ... passwordless appeared first on SD Times.

When you're managing a website, you can get too focused on rankings. It's easy to get caught up in the web of search rankings and forget everything else. But remember, high search rankings don't mean anything unless users actually click on your link. The organic click-through rate (CTR) is often used as a metric in PPC and email marketing campaigns. When we create a file or folder on a Unix-based system like Linux or MacOS, it has a set of permissions and access modes. These are most often manipulated using the chmod command, which allow us to change who can access and run different files. Let's look at how chmod works. To begin, the chmod command has the following syntax, where [OPTIONS] are optional settings, [MODE] are the permissions we want to give the file or folder, and x is the file we want to apply chmod to.
Doesn't time fly? And don't ships sail? A year ago, we launched our Smashing Membership programme so that members of the Smashing readership could support us for a small amount of money (most people pay $5 or $9 a month, and can cancel at any time). In return get access to our ebooks, members-only webinars, discounts on printed books and conferences, and other benefits. We did this because we wanted to reduce advertising on the site; ad revenues were declining, and the tech-savvy Smashing audience was becoming increasingly aware of the security and privacy implications of ads.
