Learn about Resource-Oriented Architecture (ROA), why it is useful, and the best practices for using it. Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and resource-oriented architecture (ROA) are architectural design patterns used to implement robust, scalable distributed application architectures. Distributed architectures are made up of components that are consumed across a network through well-defined interfaces. In ROA, these components […] The post An Overview of Resource-Oriented Architectures appeared first on Developer.com.

CSS blend modes and filters allow for effects that were not possible before. When applying these new options to images, you can create even more impressive effects by stacking or repeating multiple attributes in clever ways. And all of this is done in a nondestructive way. Bennett Feely and his Code Snippets Bennett Feely from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and his project Image-Effects on Github provide a great example for effects that can be achieved with an intelligent use of combinations or repetitions of different modern CSS attributes, for which you would not have used pure CSS until now. Bennett has built twenty effects. All of them are displayed while applied to the same original image, as well as with the according required code snippet in CSS and SCSS. You can either copy the snippets directly from the demo page, or switch to Codepen, where you get to play around with the settings, and a live preview. Bennett also provides all effects as a CSS library, which is easy to integrate into your projects, and only weights 1300 bytes when compressed. Of course, working with the uncompressed version of 12,8 kilobytes is more comfortable ;-) In general, it is possible to use […]
Sometimes, as web and digital designers, we can get trapped in our little world of computers and software, attempting to work out the solution to our clients’ design problems, but... The post How Your Work Environment Influences Your Design Work appeared first on Speckyboy Design Magazine.
During May of 2015, it was decided that HTTP/2 would become the new standard and that it would replace HTTP/1.1 in due time. The possible advantages of HTTP/2 are huge, however, the usability is not as easy is imagined. In this article, we’ll take a quick look at the benefits that this standard could provide for the website owners, as well as which requirements have to be met to use WordPress and HTTP/2. How many articles about a website’s loading speed have your read already? Probably a whole lot. I’ve also published a couple of articles on the topic here at Noupe and even more over at our German sister site Dr. Web. An important part of performance optimization is the server, as no optimization can work without a proper server with a modern operating system. That would be like tilting at windmills. As none of us is Don Quijote, we shouldn’t start with that, right? What is HTTP and What is it Needed For? In general, HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) is a way of communication between web server and browser. That means HTTP is the language that server and browser use to talk to each other. I won’t really […]
In a post to his site Tomas Votruba introduces something that can be helpful for those working with Symfony 4 and Flex to make the "zero-setup configuration" easier to work with: effective use of the Symfony Flex Loader. Symfony 4 and Flex is heading in direction of zero-setup configuration - no bundles, no extensions, no configuration. You already know how to get rid of Configuration. Flex now loads services instead of Extension class. But it has an extra price, a lot of new boilerplate code in Kernel. Today you'll learn how to keep your Kernel Flex-ready and clean at the same time. He starts with an example kernel that loads an extra directory (defined by a "custom path"). He shows how to refactor these examples to "make them small again" making use of the Flex loader package that reduces the number of lines required to accomplish the same end result.
