There is a huge difference between a website (which can generate leads) and a lead capture page (which is only supposed to generate leads). Websites tell visitors: This is all of the stuff we can do for you. Have a look around and let us know when you're ready to spend some money! Lead capture pages, instead, tell visitors: We have this one super valuable thing we want to give you for free.

Graphic design and illustration design are technically two different areas of work. But these two usually overlap each other in one way or another. Generally, a graphic designer tells a story or conveys his or her message through text and pictures, but they can also use illustrations sometimes to make the designs even more effective. In a recent post to his site Freek Van der Herten talks about "handcrafting mocks" in your unit testing. In his example he shows the creation of custom mocks rather than using one of the current mocking test tools. In an application I was working on I wanted to implement automated tweets. Of course, this logic should also be tested. In this blogpost I'd like to show you how you can easily handcraft your own mocks. In his application, he wanted to be able to send tweets to Twitter when certain events happened. He starts with a bit of set up showing how to use this library to set up the OAuth connection between your application and Twitter account. He then shows the class that will make the actual tweet and how to use event handling to send the message when a new blog post is published. With this all in place, he starts in on the testing, showing the creation of the custom mock (so tweets aren't actually sent) and how to use it to test that a tweet was sent. He finishes the post with a mention of a possible refactoring: using an interface instead of extending a class to make the testing more structured.

The blend tool in Adobe Illustrator is often used to create abstract wave graphics, but I’ve been experimenting with some additional adjustments and discovered some handy tricks to create sci-fi inspired digital particle waves. For the last few years, whenever somebody wants to start building an HTTP API, they pretty much exclusively use REST as the go-to architectural style, over alternative approaches such as XML-RPC, SOAP and JSON-RPC. REST is made out by many to be ultimately superior to the other "RPC-based" approaches, which is a bit misleading because they are just different. This article discusses these two approaches in the context of building HTTP APIs, because that is how they are most commonly used. REST and RPC can both be used via other transportation protocols, such as AMQP, but that is another topic entirely. The post Understanding REST And RPC For HTTP APIs appeared first on Smashing Magazine.
